Rwanda to call for more ambitious climate action at COP28
At this year’s UN Climate Change Conference, known as COP28, Rwanda will call for more ambitious climate action, a doubling of funding for adaptation and share why Rwanda is an ideal destination for green investment. COP28 is being held from 30 November - 12 December 2023 in Dubai, UAE.
Rwanda's delegation to COP includes representatives from government institutions, development banks, the private sector and civil society - all united in their commitment to address climate change and advance sustainable development.
Rwanda's active participation in previous COPs has been instrumental in highlighting why the country is an ideal destination for green investment. This year’s COP28 is an opportunity to inspire a stronger commitment to ambitious climate action while showcasing diverse investment opportunities in Rwanda.
“We want a COP of transformational actions. COP28 will be a success if we see the loss and damage fund operational, and if the global stocktake leads to faster emissions cuts by the major polluters. That's the only way to keep the 1.5 degree goal alive. Rwanda’s priority is to showcase the solutions we have committed to scale up green growth, and play our role to enhance resilience of Rwanda.” said Dr. Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya, Minister of Environment, Rwanda
During COP28, Rwanda will launch and showcase a number of new climate action initiatives and forge new partnerships, including:
These events will take place at the Rwanda Pavilion, where the country will host more than 20 events and engagements to share experience and learn from others.
Through its NDC Climate Action Plan, Rwanda aims to reduce emissions by 38% by 2030 compared to business as usual, equating to a significant reduction of 4.6 million tons of carbon dioxide.
Rwanda’s Green Growth and Climate Resilience Strategy serves as the country’s long-term strategy for low-emissions development and is fostering a development pathway for Rwanda that is climate resilient, carbon neutral and promotes green economic innovation.
