COP29
The 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference, known as COP29, will take place from 11-22 November in Baku, Azerbaijan. This global event brings together world leaders, policymakers, and climate champions to tackle climate change and inspire collective action for a sustainable future. Rwanda’s delegation to COP29 will continue the country’s active role in global climate discussions.
At COP29, Rwanda’s delegation will advocate for stronger global emissions reductions, call for increased financing for resilience and adaptation, and position the country as an ideal destination for green investment and innovation.
The delegation, which includes representatives from government, the private sector, and civil society, will push for the finalization of a New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance that is not less than USD 1.3 trillion annually, and call for major emitters to reduce carbon emissions to stay within the 1.5°C target of the Paris Agreement.
Key initiatives include showcasing Rwanda’s new Climate and Nature Finance Strategy as well as sharing the impact of the country’s climate action efforts.
